Not Another One
By Angela Holliday
3/15/08You would think that having four in your married life that would be enough. You would think that after cleaning up after them for twenty years would be more than enough. You would think that losing valuable items to them for decades would be more than enough. You would think that having seven of them at the same time would be enough, but no. Some people never get tired of adopting more dogs. My mom is one of those people. And she’s done it again.
Not to long ago, we decided to go to Tennessee on vacation. That should be a pretty safe trip we thought. We arrived back home with a dog. After a quick engagement, Our Melanie and the lucky groom from Tennessee had the best dog wedding I have ever been to. After not to long, guess what we were blessed with—five collie puppies! This should satisfy my mom, we thought. We were right—for awhile.
The marriage wasn’t working out as well as we planned. You know the old saying, "You don’t just marry your bride, you marry her family as well." Let’s just say that the groom didn’t get along with his in-laws all that well. I think the strain of living not only with his wife but his extended family caused him no end of anxiety. We knew that he wasn’t doing that well in our family and he needed a less hectic lifestyle. (He was living with us after all.) Buddy needed a quieter home so he went into retirement with a nice new family. After all, after having five kids and a demanding wife, what husband wouldn’t need to get away.
After that escapade, we felt that all was settled. Mom had had all the dogs she could want. Now was the time to settle down with our one faithful friend and try to help rebuild her life after her arranged marriage didn’t work out. We were all content with our lives as they were—we never should have let Mom get on PuppyFind again.
About a week and a half ago, my mom started a new mission. We didn’t take it too seriously. We should have watched her more closely. I was taking my ACTs and the rest of the family was busy. Mom was busy too—except we didn’t realize it. Then the question came; the news that we had heard so many times before, "Isn’t she cute?" She had us right then and there. We were hooked too.
After some work on my dad, Mom arranged for us to adopt the puppy. Now we had went from small dogs to big dogs. Thankfully, instead of the dogs getting bigger, they got smaller. So last night, Mom, Dad, Michelle, and Amy drove down to Detroit, in the middle of rush hour traffic to adopt our newest addition to the family—our very own Papillion: Chloe.
She is the most adorable puppy you have ever seen. She is the smallest dog we have ever had—even smaller than our cats. Only time will tell how she will fit into our family. But as I write this with her sleeping happily on my lap, I think, Maybe this is just what we needed after all!
Kathy,
I had Ava picture taken with the others last Sat while we where in town. She is a lover and is so smart! Eddie is our other Pap that weighs 16 lbs. He is a big boy! Peaches is the so called Papillion we rescued from Huntsville Al. 2 weeks ago. She looks like a long haired Chihuahua to all of us and displays all the snippy charateristics too. She is getting much better. he is very soft and beautiful none the less. Ava and Peaches go into the vet this week for shots and chiping.
Enjoy the pictures.
Tammy
Kathy,
Thank you for the dog. Eli already loves the family, he has attached to our son who is two and half. Our Daughter loves him and our other dog is not sure of him yet. He arrived fine nothing was wrong, he just looked like he was crying. Thanks again, and also I might want to buy another one for my mother. Keep me informed when you have more for sale. Thank you,
Amanda and Paul
